At the time of birth, every person has 1,00,000 to 1,50,000 hairs on the head. The number of strands lost on an average day is 100. To maintain the normal density, the hair that has fallen must be replaced. New hair must grow at the same rate at which it is lost. If the replaced hair is fine and brittle, it may result in sparse growth.
